Eddy Merckx ist bis heute der erfolgreichste Radprofi aller Zeiten. Er errang in seiner Karriere mehr als 500 Profisiege, gewann unter anderen 5 Mal die Gesamtwertung der Tour de France. Merckx galt schon während seiner aktiven Zeit als Perfektionist in Sachen Technik. Er tüftelte mit Ernesto Colnago lange an seiner Maschine für den Stundenweltrekord 1972 in Mexiko und später mit Ugo de Rosa an seinen Rädern für die großen Rundfahrten. Nach dem Ende seiner aktiven Karriere beschloss er Räder unter seinem Namen zu vertreiben. Die ersten „Professional" Rahmen sind dann auch bei De Rosa in Italien gefertigt worden. Schnell machten sie sich einen guten Namen in der Szene und Merckx eröffnete schon bald ein eigenes Werk in Belgien. Dort wurden dann auch ab Mitte der Achtziger die ersten Corsa Extra Rahmen als neues Spitzenmodell auf den Markt gebracht. Der neu entwickelte Columbus SLX Rohrsatz kam hier zum Einsatz. Ab 1989 trat Merckx dann auch als Sponsor diverser Teams im Profiradsport auf. So zählten die Teams Telekom-Merckx, das Team 7-Eleven und das spätere Team Motorola zu den wohl bekanntesten Mannschaften dieser Generation des Radsports. Das hier nun vorgestellte Rad war das Arbeitsgerät des Team Motorola 1991/92. Zu den bekanntesten Fahren zählen sicherlich S.Yates, L.Armstrong, P.Anderson, S.Bauer, M.Sciandri, und A.Hampsten - eine Lister klangvoller Namen, dessen Erfolge groß waren, bei denen man aber auch nicht weiß, wie diese teilweise zustande gekommen sind - hier kann sich jeder seinen Teil denken. Es soll auch mehr um das Fahrrad, die Maschinen, der Fahrer gehen.

Das hier vorgestellte "Corsa Extra" ist aus Columbus SLX Rohren gelötet und in "Team Motorola Farben" lackiert. Der Columbus SLX Rohrsatz war zu dieser Zeit einer der top Rohrsätze, steifer als der SL und wurde von vielen hochwertigen Rahmenbauern für die Topmodelle verwendet. Der "Corsa Extra" Rahmen ist bei vielen Fahrern aufgrund seiner enormen Laufruhe und Steifigkeit bei trotzdem sehr hohem Komfort ausgesprochen beliebt. Bei Merckx hatte der Kunde die Möglichkeit, sich seinen Rahmen mit vielen Optionen lackieren und verchromen zu lassen. Dieser Kunde wollte neben dem Wunsch der Motorola Lackierung auch noch möglichst viel Chrom. Hier ist beispielsweise auch der Gabelkopf noch verchromt und hebt die Pantographien zusätzlich hervor. Es sind diese "Kleinigkeiten", die den Unterschied zu so vielen anderen Rennrädern ausmachen. Endgeben dem Aufbau des Motorola Teams (Shimano Dura Ace) wollte der Erstbesitzer sein Rad lieber „klassisch" Campa bestückt haben. Ich denke, dass eine Campagnolo Record Gruppe aus der Zeit schon mit 8 Fach Ergopower Schalthebeln an diesen tollen Rahmen aber auch sehr gut passt.

Das Rad ist in einem tollen, originalen Erhaltungszustand. Der Laufradsatz sogar komplett neu.

Mit diesem Rad kann man auch heute noch schöne, sportliche Touren fahren.

Eddy Merckx is still the most successful professional cyclist of all time. He achieved in his career more than 500 professional victories, won among others 5 times the overall standings of the Tour de France. Merckx was already considered a perfectionist in terms of technology during his active time. The bike presented here was the working equipment of Team Motorola 1991/92. It should also be more about the bike, the machines, the driver.

The "Corsa Extra" presented here is brazed from Columbus SLX tubes and painted in "Team Motorola colors". The Columbus SLX tube set was one of the top tube sets at the time, stiffer than the SL and used by many high end frame builders for the top of the line models. The "Corsa Extra" frame is extremely popular with many riders due to its tremendous smoothness and stiffness while still being very comfortable. At Merckx, the customer had the option of having his frame painted and chromed with many options. This customer, in addition to wanting the Motorola paint job, also wanted as much chrome as possible. Here, for example, the fork crown is also still chrome-plated and additionally highlights the pantographs. It is these "little things" that make the difference to so many other racing bikes. Endgeben the construction of the Motorola team (Shimano Dura Ace) the first owner wanted to have his bike rather "classic" Campa equipped. I think that a Campagnolo Record group from the time already with 8 compartment Ergopower shifters on this great frame but also fits very well.

The bike is in a great, original state of preservation. The wheelset even completely new.
