Colnago "Super" Eddy Merckx Molteni 1978.

Kaum ein Rennrad hat eine größere Geschichte und Tradition wie ein Colnago Super im typischen "Molteni Orange". Zur Geschichte des Colnago Super Rahmens kann man recht viel erzählen. Der "Super" war sozusagen der Durchbruch von Ernesto Colnago. Die Geometrie seines ersten, 1968 vorgestellten Rahmens war revolutionär. Ernesto Colnago verkürzte den Radstand seines Rahmens extrem. Sein Ziel war es, einen Rahmen zu bauen, der schlichtweg leichter, steifer und agiler zu fahren war. Colnago gilt auch heute noch als "Tüftler". Er war und ist immer auf der Suche nach der Verbesserung im Rahmenbau. Ein Rahmen ging immer erst in Serie, wenn er wirklich perfekt war. Den "Super" Rahmen gab es fast 20 Jahre im Angebot des traditionsreichen Unternehmens aus Norditalien. Er wurde über die Jahre zwar immer mal wieder leicht verändert, die Grundidee blieb aber. 1979 überreichte Colnago sogar dem Papst eines seiner legendären Räder. Heute haben diese Rahmen unter Sammlern einen absoluten Kultstatus.

Von 1971–1976 fuhr dann ein gewisser Eddy Merckx auf den typisch orangenen "Molteni" Räder für das gleichnamige Team. Aus dieser Zeit, wahrscheinlich aber etwas später, stammt auch das hier vorgestellte Rad. Die Grundlage bildet eben genau dieser "Super" Rahmen, der hier "Merckx Molteni" gelabelt ist. Der frühe "Super" Rahmen, mit dem für mich schönsten Colnago Gabelkopf in Chrom mit den kurzen Strebenspiegeln hat hier schon die Colnago typische Zweipunkt Zugführung auf dem Oberrohr. Aufgebaut ist das Rad exakt mit der passenden Campagnolo Record Gruppe aus der Zeit. Bremsen aus der ersten Generation, gut zu erkennen an den ersten "Flügeln" zum Öffnen der Bremse, später folgte den der Löffel, die passenden, weiter gebogenen frühen Bremshebel, das 1979 gestempelte Schaltwerk und der noch die Kurbel ebenfalls mit einem 1978 Date Code. Original Mavic GP4 Felgen mit Campagnolo Record Naben und ein 3ttt Cockpit plus super seltenen gelochten Assos Sattel machen dieses Rad zu einer authentischen Maschine, die vor fast 45 Jahren gebaut wurde.

Der Rahmen wurde vom Vorbesitzer (Colnago Sammler) vor vielen Jahren in Italien neu lackiert. Die Lackierung ist sehr gut geworden und auch im echten "Molteni Farbton" restauriert worden. Die Anbauteile sind alle original und passen so perfekt an dieses wirklich besondere Stück Radsportgeschichte.

Hardly any road bike has a greater history and tradition than a Colnago Super in the typical "Molteni Orange". About the history of the Colnago Super frame can be told quite a lot. The "Super" was, so to speak, the breakthrough of Ernesto Colnago. The geometry of his first frame, introduced in 1968, was revolutionary. Ernesto Colnago extremely shortened the wheelbase of his frame. His goal was to build a frame that was simply lighter, stiffer and more agile to ride. Colnago is still considered a "tinkerer" today. He was and is always looking for improvement in frame construction. A frame always went into production only when it was really perfect. The "Super" frame was available for almost 20 years in the range of the traditional company from northern Italy. Over the years, it was changed slightly from time to time, but the basic idea remained. In 1979, Colnago even presented the Pope with one of its legendary bikes. Today, these frames have an absolute cult status among collectors.

From 1971-1976, a certain Eddy Merckx then rode on the typical orange "Molteni" wheels for the team of the same name. From this time, but probably a little later, also comes the wheel presented here. The basis is precisely this "Super" frame, which is here "Merckx Molteni" labeled. The early "Super" frame, with the most beautiful for me Colnago fork head in chrome with the short strut mirrors has here already the Colnago typical two-point cable routing on the top tube. Built up the wheel is exactly with the matching Campagnolo Record group from the time. Brakes from the first generation, well recognizable by the first "wings" to open the brake, later followed the spoon, the matching, further bent early brake levers, the 1979 stamped rear derailleur and the still the crank also with a 1978 date code. Original Mavic GP4 rims with Campagnolo Record hubs and a 3ttt cockpit plus super rare perforated Assos saddle make this bike an authentic machine built almost 45 years ago.

The frame was repainted by the previous owner (Colnago collector) in Italy many years ago. The paint has turned out very well and has also been restored in the true "Molteni color". The add-on parts are all original and fit so perfectly on this really special piece of cycling history.
