Road bike Francesco Moser - RH 57cm - Campagnolo equipment
Francesco Moser, born on June 19, 1951 in Palù di Giovo, Trentino, with the nickname "Lo sceriffo" (The Sheriff), is a former Italian professional racing cyclist. In 1973 he became a professional. He was considered one of the most elegant riders in the field. But because of his strong stature he was not a gifted climber. Nevertheless, he won the Giro d'Italia in 1984 and the World Road Cycling Championship in 1977. With his 273 road victories he is behind Eddy Merckx (525) and Rik Van Looy (379), but ahead of Rik Van Steenbergen (270) and Roger De Vlaeminck (255). He was also an accomplished track rider and raced six-day races almost every winter during his career. In addition, he has certainly become very famous for another thing. Francesco Moser broke Eddy Merckx's (from 1972) hour record in Mexico City on January 19, 1984. He rode 50.808 kilometers on an aerodynamic bicycle with full-disc wheels that was more advanced than the conventional bicycle used by Merckx in 1972. Four days later, he went one better and improved the record again. At 51.151 kilometers in one hour, he was significantly faster again. From that day on, the famous lettering "51.151" was found on many Moser bikes. The record ord had quite long durability.
The wheel presented here is from about 1990, a steel frame made of Oria tubes, on which you can also see the numbers of the world record. The coloring, with a lot of chrome, is already typical, italian beautiful. The bike is built with Campagnolo components, not quite uniform but still functional, high quality and harmonious. The great Vento wheels with high-quality tires are certainly a highlight of the bike.
